Waymo is seeking a Staff Tech Lead Manager to scale an advanced ML evaluation team that builds metrics, infrastructures, and AI-powered tools for World Model evaluation. You will translate cutting-edge generative AI advances into production-ready evaluation systems used across Waymo to ensure safety and performance of autonomous fleets.

Qualifications

3+ years of hands-on technical leadership experience managing 5-10 engineers.
7+ years of experience building, deploying, and optimizing ML systems in production.
Strong software engineering proficiency in Python and/or C++.
Experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
Proven ability to design robust evaluation frameworks for complex systems and large-scale data processing.

Responsibilities

Lead a top-tier applied ML team focused on eval frameworks, infrastructure, and AI tooling for World Model understanding and evaluation.
Drive technical direction and provide guidance to the team.
Architect ML-driven metrics and evaluation frameworks to test World Model quality and surface anomalies.
Chart the technical direction for World Model evaluation with Product and Program managers to align with business objectives.
Build AI-powered internal tools to streamline model eval journeys and enable fast-iteration workflows.
Partner with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to deploy solutions into production-critical systems.
