Job summary

Waymo seeks a Staff Tech Lead Manager to scale a cutting-edge simulation and evaluation stack for the Waymo Driver. You will bridge technical vision and execution, translating generative AI advances into production-ready evaluation tools used across Waymo’s engineering teams to ensure safety and performance.

You will lead an ML-focused team, shape the technical direction for World Model evaluation, and build AI-powered tools that accelerate model analysis and deployment in production systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Robotics, ML or related field.
• 7+ years building, deploying, and optimizing ML systems in production.
• 3+ years leading and guiding engineering teams of 5–10 people.
• Strong software engineering proficiency in Python and/or C++.

Responsibilities

• Lead ML eval frameworks, infrastructure, and AI-powered tooling for World Model evaluation.
• Set technical direction and provide guidance to the team.
• Design robust evaluation pipelines for complex systems and large datasets.
• Define metrics and evaluation frameworks to surface anomalies and edge cases.
• Build internal AI-powered tools to streamline model eval workflows.
• Collaborate with Onboard, Research, and other Simulation teams to deploy solutions.
