Job summary

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for ML Systems Co-Design in Mountain View, CA. You will own strategy to enable open-source ML models to achieve TPU performance and drive cross-team roadmaps across TPU Hardware, XLA, and Cloud AI Systems.

The role requires deep expertise in large-scale ML workloads, performance modeling, and pre-silicon co-design, with strong leadership across hardware, compilers, AI research, and cloud infra.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in C++ or Python.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 5 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the strategy for enabling open-source ML models to achieve TPU performance.
• Establish scalable methodology to analyze mapping gaps across model families.
• Collaborate across TPU Hardware, XLA Compiler, and Cloud AI Systems on roadmaps.
• Deliver high-signal implementations (PyTorch/JAX/Pallas) under compiler constraints.
