Job summary

Root Insurance seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to own the long‑term architectural design of the pricing platform, including versioned contracts between data, features, models, and pricing. Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Architectural ownership of production ML infrastructure.
• Strong system design and distributed systems expertise.
• Experience with reproducibility, lineage, versioning, training–serving consistency.
• Familiarity with ML lifecycle stages: training, evaluating, deploying, operating models.
• Ability to set technical direction in ambiguous spaces and drive plans.
• Collaborate with data scientists and researchers to translate needs into platform capabilities.
• Proficiency with Python and modern ML tooling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across orgs.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical roadmap accelerating pricing innovations.
• Collaborate with researchers to specify platform needs from data readiness to deployment.
• Define architecture and versioned contracts among data, features, models, and pricing.
• Automate end-to-end workflows including LLM-assisted data science automation.
