Job summary

Root Insurance is seeking a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to build the next generation of our pricing platform, enabling researchers to move rapidly from experimentation to production. You will own core platform capabilities and ensure reliable, scalable ML workflows across the team.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will write and review code, mentor engineers, and drive delivery from design to production, while collaborating with data scientists to translate research into production-ready

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with production ML platforms and large-scale data systems.
• Hands-on experience building ML platform capabilities such as feature pipelines, feature stores, or model training orchestration.
• Strong design of distributed systems and reliable production services.
• Experience collaborating with Data Scientists to translate research into production platforms.
• Proficiency with Python and ML data tooling.
• Excellent cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of long-term pricing platform roadmap and ML tooling improvements.
• Collaborate with researchers to define platform needs for end-to-end R&D workflow from data readiness to serving.
• Develop core platform capabilities including feature pipelines, feature stores, registries, validation, model serving, and observability.
• Automate end-to-end workflows, leveraging LLM technology to power data science automation.
• Own the execution of major platform capabilities, breaking down problems and driving production delivery.
• Mentor engineers and guide technical design while ensuring platform reliability.
• Maintain standards for reliability, observability, reproducibility, and correctness across systems.
