Job summary

Datavant seeks a Staff ML Platform Engineer to lead our Data & ML Platform across training, inference, and observability. You’ll drive architecture for LLM endpoints with Databricks, AWS, and self-hosted deployments, and mentor senior engineers while staying hands-on with IaC.

AI fluency and responsible use of tools are required. You will collaborate with Data Science, App Dev, and Operations to deliver a cohesive platform that enables self-serve workflows and robust guardrails in production

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years designing and operating enterprise-scale ML platforms
• Strong technical judgment under ambiguity and track record of setting standards across teams
• Hands-on with Databricks and/or SageMaker, MLflow, and at least one core ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Fluency in Java (or JVM) and Python with real depth in Apache Spark
• Real depth in AWS: networking, IAM, GPU compute, storage and messaging
• Fluency with Terraform, containers, Kubernetes, and GitHub-based CI/CD for ML workloads
• Direct experience serving LLMs in production, including cost management and safe handling of prompts
• AI-native working style with daily use of Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot
• Clear written and verbal communication, especially async and remote settings

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across ML training, serving, and observability
• Own and evolve paved-road framework for scalable ML workflows
• Lead architecture for LLM-endpoint serving across providers and self-hosted deployments
• Own standards and tooling for MLflow, model registry, training image supply chain
• Partner with Data & ML Platform teammates to present cohesive platform to teams
• Assist vendor/platform selection decisions across ML tooling and observability
• Mentor senior engineers and contribute hands-on Infra-as-Code work
