Job summary

Datavant is seeking a Staff ML Platform Engineer to lead the Data & ML Platform organization. You will direct the paved-road for training, inference, and observability, shaping production-grade pipelines and self-serve workflows for Data Science teams.

The role requires AI fluency and hands-on use of Claude Code, Cursor, and similar tools to accelerate development while safeguarding PHI and sensitive data. You will partner with Platform teams to implement scalable, reliable ML infrastructure

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in production systems.
• Strong technical judgment and ability to set cross-team standards.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and/or SageMaker and MLflow.
• Fluency in Java and Python with Apache Spark experience.
• Deep AWS knowledge including GPU compute and storage/services.
• Familiarity with Terraform, containers, Kubernetes, and GitHub CI/CD.
• Direct experience serving LLMs in production with safety considerations.
• AI-native workflow with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalents.
• Clear written and verbal communication for async, remote work.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across ML training, serving, and observability.
• Evolve paved-road framework for production workflows.
• Lead architecture for LLM-endpoint serving across providers.
• Own standards for MLflow, model registry, and training image supply chain.
• Collaborate with Data & ML Platform teams to deliver cohesive platform.
• Advise on vendor and platform selections for ML tooling and observability.
• Mentor senior engineers and contribute hands-on code and IaC.
