Job summary

ZipRecruiter is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist to anchor our ML and AI capabilities. You will shape a multi-year ML roadmap and translate research into high-throughput, low-latency production systems.

You will mentor engineers and establish best practices for model deployment and evaluation at scale. This high-visibility role reports to the Director of Recommendation Systems and focuses on leading architectural decisions, improving candidate ranking and retrieval, and

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience developing and deploying ML models in production.
• Proven track record shipping end-to-end ML solutions for production traffic at scale.
• Deep domain expertise in recommendation systems, personalization, ranking/retrieval, or interaction prediction.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with modern DL frameworks.
• Experience in technical leadership and mentorship across teams.
• Background in statistical modeling and online experiments.

Responsibilities

• Drive ML strategy and roadmap with leadership to define technical vision for core marketplace components.
• Architect high-scale ML systems for dynamic prediction, ranking, and retrieval.
• Optimize two-sided marketplace dynamics with real-time and offline evaluation.
• Mentor ML engineers and data scientists to promote technical excellence.
• Own end-to-end model lifecycle from exploration to latency optimization.
