Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Mission Assurance Engineer for our Rocket Center, WV site. The role leads quality activities for the Missile Products team, coordinating with Operations, PM, customers and government agencies to ensure readiness and compliance for program hardware.

You will generate quality reports, perform data analysis, develop inspection plans, and drive process improvements using Lean tools and standard quality methods. Must maintain a Secret clearance capability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in STEM with 12+ years (or MS 10+, PhD 8+) of relevant experience.
• Ability to lead investigations, organize data, and present corrective action board investigations.
• Ability to report status updates and technical data to directors and managers.
• Technical leadership in at least two DoD development, energetics, electronics or composites projects.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Strong interpretation of technical drawings and GD&T.
• Experience with root cause and corrective action methods (8D or 5 Why).
• Experience working with suppliers on corrective actions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

• Validate and coordinate product readiness, including FAIT qualifications of new suppliers.
• Provide and support failure analysis processes for program hardware.
• Perform independent risk assessments on Mission Assurance issues and communicate findings.

Job Description

The Staff Mission Assurance Engineer will provide leadership to our Missile Products team at our Rocket Center, WV location. This position acts as a quality liaison for Operations, Program Management, customers, government agencies, and various other functions.

Location

This position will be on‑site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote work opportunities for this role.

Specific Responsibilities

• Generate quality reports such as First Pass Yield, First Article Inspection, Cost of Quality, etc.
• Analyze data and drive process improvements
• Receive and/or develop inspection plans based upon statistical methods
• Review data and statistical analysis to assess process capability to meet required standards and specifications
• Use Lean tools such as risk assessment, 8D, DFMEA and/or PFMEA
• Build a good working relationship with suppliers, conducting periodic supplier audits to ensure compliance with plans
• Validate and coordinate product readiness for use or delivery, including FAAT qualifications of new suppliers
• Provide and support failure analysis processes for program hardware
• Perform independent risk assessments on Mission Assurance issues and communicate findings

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. and 8 years of relevant experience, with a strong reference to a STEM degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to lead investigations, organize data, and present corrective action board investigations.
• Ability to report status updates and technical data to directors and managers.
• Significant technical leadership experience in at least two of the following areas:
• DoD development projects
• Energetics production projects
• Electronics production projects
• Composites production projects
• Familiarity with quality management systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001.
• Strong interpretation skills with technical drawings and GD&T.
• Experience with root cause and corrective action methodologies such as 8D or 5 Why.
• Experience working with suppliers to support supplier corrective actions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Able to work on multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with performing and reviewing First Article inspections (FAI).
• Experience with conducting internal and external audits, as well as supporting third‑party audits.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer.
• Lean Six Sigma training and certification.
• Working knowledge of MES software (e.g., Solumina) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Costpoint).

Salary and Compensation

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00–$229,300.00. The above range is a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as scope, responsibilities, and candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for long‑term incentives.
