Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Staff Mission Assurance Engineer for our Missile Products team at the Rocket Center, WV site. This on-site role requires a Secret clearance and leads quality liaison activities across Operations, Program Management, and suppliers.

Responsibilities include generating quality reports, analyzing data, developing inspection plans, and driving process improvements with Lean tools. Strong DoD/project leadership and AS9100/ISO 9001 familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with a STEM degree.
  • Lead investigations, organize data, and present corrective action board investigations.
  • Report status updates and technical data to directors and managers.
  • Significant leadership experience in DoD development, energetics, electronics, or composites projects.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Strong interpretation skills with drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with root cause and corrective action methodologies (8D or 5 Why).
  • Experience working with suppliers on corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Job Description


The Staff Mission Assurance Engineer will provide leadership to our Missile Products team at our Rocket Center, WV location. This position acts as a quality liaison for Operations, Program Management, customer, government agencies and various other functions.


This position will be on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote work opportunities on this role.


Specific responsibilities include the following:



  • Generate quality reports such as First Pass Yield, First Article Inspection, Cost of Quality, etc.

  • Analyze data and drive process improvements

  • Receive and/or develop inspection plans based upon statistical methods

  • Review data and statistical analysis to assess process capability to meet required standards and specifications

  • Use Lean tools such as risk assessment, 8D, DFMEA and/or PFMEA

  • Build good working relationship with suppliers, conducting periodic supplier audits to make sure that they are working according to plan

  • Validate and coordinate product readiness for use or delivery, including FAAT qualifications of new suppliers

  • Provide and support failure analysis processes for program hardware

  • Perform independent risk assessments on Mission Assurance issues and communicate issues and findings


Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’sdegree and 10 years of relevant experience, or a PhD and 8 years of relevant experience, strong reference of a STEM Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to lead investigations, organize data, and present corrective action board investigations

  • Ability to report status updates and technical data to directors and managers

  • Significant technical leadership experience in at least two of the following areas:

    • DoD development projects

    • Energetics production projects

    • Electronics production projects

    • Composites production projects


  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001

  • Strong interpretation skills with technical drawings and GD&T

  • Experience with root cause and corrective action methodologies such as 8D or 5 Why

  • Experience working with suppliers to support supplier corrective actions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Able to work on multiple tasks in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance

  • US Citizenship required


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with performing and reviewing First Article inspections (FAI)

  • Experience with conducting internal and external audits, as well as supporting third party audits

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer

  • Lean Six Sigma training and certification

  • Working knowledge of MES software (i.e., Solumina) and ERP systems (i.e. SAP, Costpoint)


Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.


Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
