Job summary

Lunar Outpost in the United States is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Research and Development to contribute to our space robotics mission in a dynamic startup environment. You will design structures, packaging, mechanisms and deployable systems for the Pegasus LTV and related vehicles.

You will perform FEA, hand calculations, select materials, develop manufacturing plans across CNC milling, 3D printing, welding, turning, sheet metal bending, and water-jetting/laser cutting, and ensure

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for design of parts and assemblies.
• Strong experience with FEA and interpreting results.
• Proficient in CAM software and manufacturing processes.
• GD&T expertise and design for manufacturing/assembly.
• Experience maintaining CAD files in CM environments.
• Proven ability to rapidly prototype concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design parts and assemblies including structures, packaging, mechanisms and deployables.
• Perform loads and stress analysis (FEA and hand calcs) for weight savings and durability.
• Assist in material selection and hardware/sensor decisions.
• Inspect and assemble hardware of various types.
• Lead rapid prototyping and test events to validate concepts.
• Ensure designs comply with NASA standards (margin, tolerance, etc.).
• Prepare mechanical products for milestone and safety reviews.
• Collaborate with a fast-paced team across multiple projects and budgets.
