Job summary

Lunar Outpost seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Research and Development to shape the future of humanity's presence in space. You will design vehicle structures and mechanisms, perform FEA, manage CAD data, and work with manufacturing processes to deliver reliable hardware for the Pegasus LTV and related programs.

You will collaborate with a team in a fast-paced startup environment, ensuring schedules and budgets are met while complying with aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for design of parts, assemblies and drawings
• Proficiency in setting up and interpreting FEA models and results
• Proficiency in CAM and slicing software
• Proficient in creating part drawings
• Proficient in GD&T and design for manufacturing/assembly
• Experience maintaining CAD files/drawings in a CM environment
• Demonstrated capability to rapidly create prototypes/proofs of concepts
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines
• Excellent organization and time management skills

Responsibilities

• Design parts and assemblies including structures and packaging with CAD best practices
• Perform loads and stress analysis (FEA and hand-calcs) for weight optimization and validation
• Assist in material, hardware, actuators, sensors selection
• Inspect and assemble hardware of various types
• Participate in rapid prototyping and test events
• Ensure designs comply with NASA standards and margins
• Prepare mechanical engineering products for milestone and safety reviews
• Collaborate with a fast-paced team and manage multiple projects to timeline/budget
• Develop manufacturing plans for parts using processes like CNC, 3D printing, welding, turning, sheet metal, water-jet/laser cutting
