Job summary

Andrews Cooper is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer in Oregon to design complex automated systems and lead multi-disciplinary engineering efforts. You will develop mechanical designs, create BOMs and I/O lists, and collaborate with controls and electrical teams to deliver production-ready solutions.

The role requires 3–10 years of hands-on experience, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks) and a solid understanding of GD&T and DFMA.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree; MSME a Plus.
• 3 to 10 years of hands-on Mechanical Engineering experience with increasing responsibility.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and complex assemblies, BOM development and drawings.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis and mechanical drawing practices.
• DFM/DFA principles applied throughout design process.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating in small, multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication.
• Up to 20% travel may be required; access to reliable transportation; U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.
• Background checks are required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience in a related field. MSME a Plus.
• 3 to 10 years of professional hands‑on experience in Mechanical Engineering experience with progressively increasing technical and project responsibility.
• Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, production drawings, BOM development, and design documentation.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, machine design, materials, mechanisms, structural design, and electro‑mechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis, and mechanical drawing practices.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles and the ability to apply them throughout the design process.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within small, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Up to 20% of travel may be required between locations.
• Ability to travel for work‑related purposes as needed; access to reliable transportation is required due to the nature of our business and multiple client sites.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Background checks are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience designing complex automation equipment, robotic systems, test equipment, fixtures, EOAT, or precision mechanisms.
• Experience with electro‑mechanical motion control, pneumatics, sensors, actuators, and industrial automation components.
• Adept at generating test plans, running tests, collecting data and generating customer proposals.
• Ability to collaborate with controls and electrical engineering on system‑level documentation such as I/O definitions, pneumatic schematics, and equipment interfaces.
• Experience with engineering scripting or data‑analysis tools such as Python is preferred.
• Experience designing machined, sheet‑metal, fabricated, molded, and additive‑manufactured components, with consideration for manufacturing process capabilities and cost.

The salary range for this position is based on national rates. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Base Salary: $82,000.00 - $135,000.00. Andrews Cooper is an equal‑opportunity employer.
