Staff Mechanical Design Engineer (SJ2025SD)

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

What You’ll Do

  1. Design, develop and test high voltage, high power density motors for eVTOL applications.
  2. Responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design of the electric engine, including rotor, stator, and gearbox components.
  3. Analyze and optimize the engine design using FEA for mechanical modeling, thermal modeling, acoustics and vibration.
  4. Support validating results through dynamometer testing.
  5. Design test equipment, such as dynamometers, testing fixtures, etc.
  6. Responsible for all stages of development from concept, design, testing, validation, and production release and support.
  7. Evaluate new technologies and design improvements to develop the most power dense, efficient and reliable electric engine.
  8. Rapid prototyping of conceptual designs.
  9. Generate design packages – detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, assembly instructions.
  10. Assist with generating vital technical documents for the mechanical team (including technical component specifications, prototype test plan, statement of work for sourcing components, and assembly instruction manuals).

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Mechanical Engineering Designer or related job title in which 5 years of experience with NX or CAD packages, mechanical tolerance stackup analysis, GD&T, and MATLAB was gained.

ALTERNATE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

ALTERNATE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Mechanical Engineering Designer or related job title in which 1 year of experience with NX or CAD packages, mechanical tolerance stackup analysis, GD&T, and MATLAB was gained.

Salary: At Archer we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our business. For this position we are offering $185,400 to $203,940 per year.
