Job summary

Archer in San Jose, CA seeks a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to lead aircraft systems architecture, packaging and integration for an all-electric four-passenger VTOL project. You will manage CAD assemblies, interface control models, and perform thermal and structural analyses to validate concepts.

The role includes supporting prototype builds, developing test strategies, and mentoring the team while coordinating cross-disciplinary design reviews. Travel ~10% domestically.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years end-to-end aerospace product lifecycle experience, including CoDR/PDR/CDR, manufacturing, qualification; and flight test.
• Experience designing metallic and composite structures; knowledge of DO160 and DO311 testing.
• NX experience with large assemblies and releasing drawings to ASME Y14.5 with GD&T.
• Proficiency in 1D tools (Simscape, Amesim) and 3D CFD (StarCCM+, Ansys); advanced FEA tools (NASTRAN, Hyperworks, Ansys).

Responsibilities

• Lead Aircraft Systems Architecture, including whole vehicle mechanical packaging and system-level architectures.
• Drive mechanical design and integration with top-level CAD assemblies and interface control models.
• Conduct thermal and structural analyses to validate concepts and packaging.
• Support prototype build and test with supply chain planning and test strategy development.
• Provide team leadership, mentorship, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
