Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC in Devens, MA, is seeking a Senior Staff Materials Engineer to lead metals development for fusion components, with focus on high-volume production and corrosion-resistant alloys. You will translate requirements into material specs and drive qualification.

The role spans R&D to production, collaborating across design, supply chain, and manufacturing, and requires deep experience with metallurgy, cryogenic and high-temperature environments, and agile project

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in metallurgy, materials science, or related field.
• Minimum 10+ years experience in metals/materials engineering.
• Experience with large-scale metal production and joining processes.
• Ability to collaborate with vendors and technical teams.
• Knowledge of scaling metal/alloy design from R&D to production.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements into verifiable material property specs and test methods.
• Identify materials and processes for high-volume manufacturing under demanding conditions.
• Select and interpret international materials standards and write specs.
• Lead materials development projects when off-the-shelf materials fail.
• Collaborate with design, supply chain, and manufacturing to qualify materials.
• Provide SME support for root cause analyses on materials.
• Review data and report materials properties in databases.
