The Manufacturing Strategy and Integration team of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Operations Systems Engineer.

Manufacturing Systems Engineers (MSE) engage with low manufacturing readiness level (MRL) programs in Business Divisions and Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) to accelerate affordable maturation of new sensor technologies from demonstration to LRIP. MSEs drive commonality of hardware, producibility vs innovation trades and risk management through tools such as Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA) and Manufacturing Plans (MP).

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Interface with Business Divisions and ECD to stay current with new concept and proposal programs
  2. Serve as operations technical interface for ECD and Business Division integrated program teams (IPT) for low MRL programs
  3. Develop MRAs and MPs per AS6500
  4. Support IPTs in make/buy/dual sourcing decisions
  5. Participate in producibility reviews for new product designs
  6. Recommend design improvements to produce lower cost/higher performing products
  7. Understand and translate state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers by interfacing with manufacturing subject matter experts
  8. Develop discriminating IRAD and capital investment plans with the Manufacturing Strategy and Integration team

Basic Qualifications for a Staff Engineer:

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science or other relevant STEM area plus 12 years of relevant experience (or 10 years with a Master's or 8 years with a PhD)
  2. Manufacturing Engineering experience
  3. Experience leading or managing projects and/or people
  4. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance. This requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Broad knowledge of processes and materials used to make RF sensors including semiconductor technology, microelectronic assembly, surface mount technology and materials for RF performance
  2. 5 or more years of manufacturing process engineering related experience
  3. 2 or more years of program experience (operations program manager, program management)
  4. Familiarity with process development and control methodologies such as Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts
  5. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with automated equipment
  6. Understanding of factory costing methodology and process yield metrics
  7. Basic understanding of concepts related to typical manufacturing systems such as: MRP, kitting, batch sizing, configuration control and work flow routings
  8. Familiarity with MIL-STD, JEDEC and Space class hardware requirements

Salary Range: $163,200 - $244,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
