Job summary

Shield AI in the United States seeks a Staff or Senior Staff Landing Gear Engineer to own the landing gear architecture for a new UAV platform. You will lead mechanism trades, perform hand calculations, and drive supplier execution in a rapid-iteration development environment.

The ideal candidate has 7–12 years in aerospace mechanism design, a B.S. or M.S. in engineering, and hands-on CAD experience (NX preferred) with a track record delivering flight-ready systems.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years of direct experience in aerospace mechanism design or related structural development.
• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Deep mastery of solid mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, fatigue, materials selection, and GD&T/tolerance stack-up.

Responsibilities

• Define landing gear architecture and trade studies to meet mass, volume, and ground handling requirements.
• Own CAD design lifecycle from concept to drawing release with complex linkages.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA (linear/non-linear, buckling, modal) for high-load components.
• Size and specify wheels, tires, brakes, actuators, and steering for landing and taxi envelopes.
• Prepare SOWs, evaluate vendors, and support hardware builds and test rigs.
• Define verification plans, design test fixtures, and support flight test operations.
