Job description

Company: Qualcomm Incorporated

Information Technology Group, Information Technology Group > IT Cloud Architect

General Summary:

Qualcomm IT is seeking a Cloud Architect / Engineer to help define, implement, and scale enterprise cloud platforms across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and hybrid enterprise environments. This role will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for shaping cloud architecture standards, operational practices, automation frameworks, security posture, governance models, and platform reliability supporting enterprise workloads spanning compute, databases, analytics, AI/ML, Kubernetes, and hybrid connectivity.

It is a high-impact, hands‑on technical leadership role for an engineer or architect who brings strong enterprise cloud experience, practical operational knowledge, and the ability to drive alignment across infrastructure, security, networking, and application teams. While OCI experience is valuable, Qualcomm is also seeking candidates with deep AWS experience and strong foundational cloud engineering capabilities who can help evolve and mature a multicloud strategy over time. The ideal candidate brings broad experience implementing and operating secure, scalable cloud environments, establishing governance and operational standards, driving infrastructure automation, and partnering across organizations to improve reliability, security, compliance, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale.

Full‑time onsite work in San Diego, CA (5 days per week).

This position is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and help evolve enterprise cloud platform strategy across OCI, AWS, and hybrid infrastructure environments including landing zone architecture, environment segmentation, governance frameworks, and operational standards
  • Architect enterprise cloud networking solutions including VCN/VPC design, hybrid connectivity, VPN/FastConnect/Direct Connect integration, routing, DNS, segmentation, and secure communication patterns across enterprise systems
  • Drive secure‑by‑default cloud platform architecture including IAM, federation, RBAC, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability management, cloud‑native security tooling, policy enforcement, and zero‑trust design principles
  • Establish and enforce cloud governance standards including tagging policies, resource lifecycle management, configuration baselines, operational guardrails, audit readiness, and compliance alignment across cloud environments
  • Own and mature Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards using Terraform including reusable module development, remote state management, CI/CD integration, policy‑driven provisioning, and multi‑environment deployment governance
  • Establish CI/CD and GitOps operating models using GitHub Actions, OCI DevOps, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling to support repeatable, auditable, and secure infrastructure and application delivery
  • Support cloud‑native platforms including Kubernetes environments such as Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE), Amazon EKS, or equivalent container orchestration technologies
  • Partner with infrastructure, application, database, networking, and security teams to support workload migration, modernization, HA/DR architecture, resiliency planning, and operational readiness initiatives
  • Drive observability, monitoring, logging, reliability engineering, FinOps practices, cost optimization, tagging governance, operational maturity, and service health standards across cloud environments
  • Develop operational standards and best practices around backup/recovery, patching, incident response, disaster recovery, service continuity, and platform reliability
  • Assist with evaluation and implementation of managed cloud services related to databases, analytics, AI/ML, storage, integration, and enterprise middleware platforms
  • Lead technical discussions and provide guidance across infrastructure modernization, cloud operations, governance, security, and platform engineering initiatives
  • Communicate platform strategy, operational health, architectural standards, and investment rationale to senior IT leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical standards, operational maturity, and engineering best practices as the cloud platform organization evolves
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or enterprise architecture experience with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field, OR 14+ years of equivalent practical experience
  • Strong hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and operating enterprise cloud environments in AWS, OCI, Azure, or similar large‑scale cloud platforms
  • Practical experience with AWS services such as VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, Route53, CloudWatch, security services, and hybrid networking architectures strongly preferred
  • Experience with OCI services including networking, IAM, compute, storage, databases, Kubernetes, governance, or security concepts is highly desirable but not required
  • Advanced Terraform expertise including reusable module strategy, remote state management, infrastructure automation, policy enforcement, and multi‑environment IaC governance
  • Strong CI/CD fundamentals with experience building pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps, OCI DevOps, or equivalent enterprise tooling
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms such as EKS, OKE, AKS, or self‑managed Kubernetes environments
  • Strong understanding of enterprise cloud governance, FinOps principles, cloud security architecture, compliance controls, operational risk management, and secure infrastructure design
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, routing, hybrid connectivity, segmentation, firewalling, and enterprise security concepts
  • Experience implementing observability, monitoring, logging, incident response, operational support, and reliability engineering practices in enterprise cloud environments
  • Proven ability to drive cross‑functional technical initiatives and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills across engineering teams, operational stakeholders, security organizations, and executive leadership
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting multicloud, hybrid enterprise environments spanning AWS, OCI, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure
  • OCI certifications such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Professional and/or OCI Multicloud Architect Professional
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional, or equivalent cloud certifications
  • Experience with Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE), Amazon EKS, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and cloud‑native workload deployment patterns
  • Experience with Oracle database platforms, Autonomous Database, Exadata Cloud Service, or enterprise HA/DR architectures
  • Experience implementing FinOps programs, governance frameworks, or cloud operational maturity initiatives at enterprise scale
  • Familiarity with AI/ML, analytics, or large‑scale data platform workloads in cloud environments
  • Experience building self‑service platform capabilities, engineering standards, and infrastructure automation practices across enterprise organizations
