Job summary

Nautilus Biotechnology seeks a Staff Software Engineer to own core capabilities of our Instrument Control software. You will orchestrate hardware, manage state, drive the workflow engine, and integrate with cloud services.

You’ll influence architectural decisions and partner with hardware, bioinformatics, and biology teams to translate scientific workflows into robust software. You will guide long-term software architecture, mentor engineers, and maintain a high bar for quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in a high-performing org.
• Expertise with Python and C/C++.
• Strong track record delivering high-quality software that operates robotic devices, ideally in biotech.
• Expertise in software architecture for robust, maintainable codebases.
• Deep knowledge of concurrent / multithreaded programming.
• Experience with Linux device drivers.
• Strength with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, and deployment.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Desire to learn and grow beyond current domain.

Responsibilities

• Own and implement core capabilities within Instrument Control software: hardware orchestration, state management, workflow engine, and cloud integration.
• Shape evolution of instrument software architecture for long-term robustness and scalability.
• Collaborate with engineering management to maintain a technical roadmap for Instrument Control software.
• Mentor teammates, lead design reviews, and uphold high software quality standards.
• Engage with bioinformatics, biology, and product teams to understand customer data goals and instrument behavior.
