Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an experienced infrastructure-focused software engineer to own routing infrastructure for traffic to Kubernetes backends. You will work with Envoy, Istio, and SPIFFE to improve latency and reliability in production.

You're expected to have 8+ years in software engineering/infrastructure, hands-on experience with routing technologies, and proficiency in Go, Python, or Java. This remote-first, hybrid-friendly role emphasizes AI-driven tooling to enhance developer velocity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering/infrastructure experience.
• 5+ years building with routing technologies (reverse proxies, ingress, CDN/WAF, service mesh).
• Proficiency in one or more systems languages (Go, Python, Java).
• Experience deploying scalable backend infrastructure on AWS with networking, compute, and containers.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure for traffic to Kubernetes backends.
• Build on Envoy-based proxies, Istio gateways, ambient mesh, and SPIFFE authentication.
• Improve latency, reliability, and performance of routing in Coinbase production.
• Shape the paved-road developer experience for operating apps, with AI-driven tooling and processes.
• Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet cross-cutting requirements.
