Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Hardware Engineer to contribute to the design and development of sophisticated embedded computing platforms used in demanding, data-intensive environments. This individual will play a key role in hardware architecture, high-speed circuit design, and board-level integration, supporting systems that process substantial volumes of sensor, imaging, and video data.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in digital hardware design, complex PCB development, and high-performance processing technologies. This role requires the ability to translate system-level requirements into reliable, high-performance hardware solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced digital hardware for high-performance embedded computing platforms.
  • Develop complex, multilayer PCB assemblies, balancing signal integrity, power distribution, thermal performance, and overall system reliability.
  • Perform signal and power integrity analysis for high-speed interfaces and memory architectures, including PCIe Gen 4/5, high-bandwidth Ethernet, and DDR4/DDR5.
  • Develop hardware architectures incorporating GPUs, FPGAs, and system-on-chip (SoC) technologies to support demanding video processing and data acquisition requirements.
  • Integrate high-performance computing components from vendors such as NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel into embedded hardware platforms.
  • Design and validate high-speed serial interfaces, processor interconnects, and peripheral communications across complex hardware systems.
  • Support thermal management strategies for ruggedized electronics, including conduction-cooled and mechanically constrained designs.
  • Produce and maintain hardware schematics, PCB layouts, design documentation, and engineering specifications.
  • Work closely with firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware integration and system-level performance.
  • Participate in design reviews, hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, verification, and product qualification activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Significant professional experience in hardware engineering, with a strong background in complex digital circuit design and embedded computing systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-speed digital design, including signal integrity, power integrity, and high-speed board-level interconnects.
  • Hands-on experience with professional schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Siemens/Mentor Xpedition.
  • Experience designing dense, multilayer PCBs for high-performance or ruggedized electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of GPU-based computing platforms, FPGA architectures, and processor integration.
  • Familiarity with high-speed memory technologies, including DDR4 and DDR5, as well as PCI Express and high-bandwidth Ethernet standards.
  • Experience with embedded communication protocols and interfaces, including I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across hardware, firmware, software, and systems engineering disciplines.
Preferred Technical Experience
  • Experience integrating NVIDIA Jetson or RTX platforms, AMD GPUs, or comparable high-performance video processing hardware.
  • Familiarity with AMD Xilinx Versal or Zynq UltraScale+ devices, Intel FPGA platforms, and high-speed serial transceiver implementation.
  • Experience with professional and embedded video interfaces, including 3G-SDI, 12G-SDI, DisplayPort, or ARINC 818.
  • Background in ruggedized electronics, conduction-cooled enclosures, or hardware designed for challenging operating environments.
  • Experience bringing complex hardware designs from initial architecture through prototyping, validation, and production readiness.
What Makes This Opportunity Unique

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging hardware platforms where processing performance, reliability, and efficient system integration are essential. The successful candidate will contribute to critical hardware design decisions and help develop next-generation embedded computing solutions in a collaborative engineering environment.
