Job summary

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Engineer with expertise in civil, geotechnical, geostructural, structural, or tunnel engineering to join the Washington, D.C. tunnel program management and engineering group.

Candidate will support the project design team from a client office in Washington, D.C. or from Schnabel’s Sterling, VA office; moving expenses may be reimbursable. This role involves design, field oversight, and collaboration with multi-discipline teams in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited intuition.
• 0-5 years of related professional experience.
• Successful completion of the EIT.
• Proficiency in design calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical memoranda.
• Experience on tunnel, shaft, underground, pipeline, sewer, or geostructural projects is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and be responsible for final design tasks.
• Strong communication skills to interface with Owner, Community and multi-discipline teams.
• Periodic travel up to 20%.
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, management, and execution of tunnel and underground geostructural, geotechnical, rehabilitation and structural design projects.
• Collaborate with multidiscipline teams through the design process.
• Perform design calculations for tunnels, underground structures and rehabilitation projects.
• Develop contract documents for tunnels, shafts, excavation support, rehabilitation works and related reports.
• Provide on-site field engineering support for construction in DC and surrounding areas.
