Qualifications

  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 0–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • At least 6 months of field technician or similar field‑based role.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of construction means, methods, and field practices.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations for various project types.
  • Assist with foundation evaluations, slope stability, and pavement design.
  • Plan field and subsurface investigations including drilling and borings.
  • Perform and review field and lab soil testing.
  • Develop engineering recommendations for review by senior engineers.

Work Setting: Hybrid field and office-based engineering environment

Compensation: $65,000–$90,000 base salary

Bonus: Discretionary bonus opportunity

Position Summary

An established engineering consulting firm is seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer to support a variety of commercial, residential, and municipal projects throughout Northern Colorado.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career civil or geotechnical engineer who wants hands‑on exposure to field investigations, engineering analysis, report preparation, and project delivery. The role combines office‑based engineering work with field assignments involving subsurface investigations, soil evaluation, drilling programs, foundation studies, pavement design, and geologic hazards.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, comfortable working in the field, and interested in building a long‑term career in geotechnical engineering under the guidance of experienced senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations supporting commercial, residential, and municipal projects
  • Assist with foundation evaluations, slope stability analysis, pavement design, earth retention, and related geotechnical studies
  • Plan and support field and subsurface investigations, including drilling programs and boring logs
  • Perform and review field and laboratory testing of soils and other geotechnical materials
  • Analyze project data and develop engineering recommendations for review by senior engineers
  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and client deliverables
  • Use engineering and geotechnical software to support project analysis
  • Participate in project meetings and coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and clients
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • EIT designation or ability to obtain EIT certification within 6 months
  • 0–5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • At least 6 months of experience in an engineering field technician or similar field‑based role
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Understanding of construction means, methods, and field practices
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
