Job summary

NV5 seeks a Staff Geologist/Engineer to support project managers, engineers, and geologists on field and construction projects. The role involves field investigations, drilling operations, boreholes, and data collection with up to 10 hours in the field daily.

The ideal candidate should enjoy outdoor work, be comfortable in varying weather, and participate in site observations, laboratory testing, and report preparation as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • BS in Geology or Engineering; a Master's in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus.
  • 0-3 years of experience.
  • Must be able to work in all weather climates, as this role is largely in the field.
  • GIT is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to lift up to 50 lbs of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical field exploration.
  • Write daily field reports and maintain exploration logs.
  • Perform laboratory testing.
  • Contribute to geotechnical analysis and preparation of engineering reports and project deliverables.
  • Observe construction to ensure compliance with design documents.
  • Role is 80-90% field exploration/investigations and 10-20% technical review, writing, and reporting.

We’re seeking a motivated Staff Geologist/Engineer to join our team and play a key role in supporting our Project Managers, Engineers, and Geologists on a variety of exciting field and construction projects.

In this hands-on role, you’ll assist with site investigations, construction observations, drilling operations, borings, test excavations, field data collection, and technical report preparation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting out in the field, building technical expertise, and contributing to projects from investigation through completion.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors and should be prepared to spend up to 10 hours per day in the field. Responsibilities may include operating a nuclear density gauge and working with moisture-density testing equipment as part of quality assurance and construction monitoring activities.

The pay range for this position in Oregon is $30.00 -$35.00 per hour

Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
