Workplace Classification:

Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the candidate is expected to report to their primary work location (Austin, TX or Warren, MI) three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

The Staff Full Stack Software Engineer for Quality Risk Management is responsible for developing software applications that support the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) business process, spanning the product development lifecycle from Design through Production. The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable working with applications that involve complex data requirements and will provide solutions using proven, industry-standard methodologies. You will be directly involved in writing software or solutions based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, you will oversee development activities to ensure delivery of world-class capabilities aligned with GM’s corporate and business objectives for a greenfield Quality application.

This role offers the opportunity to advise, coach, and mentor software engineers, while making a significant impact on this new application and helping to develop junior software engineers. Your expertise leading technical transition to cloud technologies such as Azure will be essential in transforming the FMEA application complex data into actionable insights.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Developing enterprise-grade applications using Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, Java, Angular, and PostgreSQL, among other tools.
  • Proactively engage in the identification/remediation of software issues such as code quality, pattern mismatch, and security issues related to the code or solution/configuration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead GM’s transition to cloud technologies.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring of fellow software engineers and other team members.
  • Navigate complex corporate environments and processes to remove project roadblocks.
  • Understand code quality analysis results and remediation mechanisms.
  • Maintain and debug live software systems.
  • Implement various branching strategies and share that expertise with your team.
  • Possess advanced CI/CD knowledge including automated builds and deployments and developing pipelines with GitHub Actions.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Document software solutions and ensure that technical documentation meets GM standards.
  • Maintain compliance with GM standards and industry standard methodology.
  • Lead the culture within their team, holding themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GM’s values and modeling GM behaviors.
