Job summary

Grindr is an AI-native platform for connecting millions of LGBTQ+ people globally. The Staff Engineer will shape the end-to-end moderation stack across frontend and backend, collaborating with Product, Design, and Platform to ship scalable solutions.

Based in Chicago with a hybrid schedule, you will mentor engineers, drive architectures, and lead AI integrations across the web stack while upholding security, privacy, performance, and accessibility standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert-level proficiency building user interfaces with React.
• Back-end experience in Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Experience operating cloud-native systems on AWS or GCP.
• Database fundamentals with relational and NoSQL experience.
• Staff-level track record leading technical work end-to-end.
• Experience integrating AI into web stack.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for Grindr's moderation systems — architect, build, and deliver applications and services that span the full stack and work seamlessly across devices.
• Be the point person for the React tools that enable our human moderators and its associated backend.
• Build security, privacy, and accessibility into everything.
• Maintain existing third-party integrations and develop new integrations as we pivot to being AI first.
• Raise the engineering bar across the team — mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and influence web architecture, performance, and reliability.
• Lead the integration of AI into how we build and operate the web stack — from developer tooling to product features.
