Job Description

About CookUnity

Food has lost its soul to modern convenience. And with it, has lost the power to nourish, inspire, and connect us. So in 2018, CookUnity was founded as the first-of-its-kind platform that connects the world with the source of truly great food: chefs. Today, CookUnity delivers 35 million meals a year from the industry's best chefs to homes all over the country. Fresh. Ready-to-eat. And crafted with the passion that nourishes body and soul.

Unwilling to stop there, CookUnity is expanding beyond delivery to become an ever-innovating marketplace focused on our mission: empower Chefs to nourish the world.

If that mission excites you, you've found the right job posting.

About the Team:

The OpsTech Team is a critical part of CookUnity's ChefOS Zone, dedicated to building and optimizing software solutions for Fulfillment and Logistics. This team ensures that orders are efficiently packed, tracked, and delivered with precision, leveraging technology to streamline every step of the process. Our systems directly impact the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of meal delivery, ensuring that customers receive their meals fresh and on time.

This role will also be part of a dedicated Ops Engineering R&D squad, focused on exploring emerging technologies, building POCs, and developing solutions to enhance operational efficiency across fulfillment, logistics, and kitchen operations. If you thrive on solving complex operational challenges and working with cutting-edge technology, this is the role for you!

The Role:

We are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer, OpsTech to build and optimize our fulfillment and logistics technology. This is a full stack role, focusing on TypeScript for backend development and React.js for frontend applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of scalable backend architectures, real-time tracking systems, and user-friendly frontend interfaces that support our operations.

As part of the Ops Engineering R&D squad, you should have a technology-agnostic mindset, eager to explore and contribute to new tech stacks. You will collaborate with product managers, operations teams, and other engineers to ensure our systems are top-tier.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design, develop, and maintain backend services using TypeScript (Node.js) for fulfillment and logistics.
  2. Create scalable, intuitive frontend applications in React.js, optimized for usability and performance.
  3. Work with real-time tracking and order management systems to improve fulfillment efficiency and accuracy.
  4. Lead the OpsTech team to deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with business goals.
  5. Participate in the Ops Engineering R&D squad, experimenting with new technologies and developing POCs.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including fulfillment managers, logistics coordinators, and data engineers to develop operational solutions.
  7. Ensure system reliability, security, and scalability through best practices in monitoring, logging, and performance tuning.
  8. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code; mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews.
  9. Stay updated on industry trends and seek opportunities to innovate in fulfillment and logistics technology.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. 7+ years of experience in full stack software development.
  2. Proficiency in TypeScript (Node.js) for backend development.
  3. Strong experience with React.js for frontend development.
  4. Deep understanding of microservices architecture and scalable backend design.
  5. Experience with real-time tracking systems, logistics platforms, or warehouse management solutions.
  6. Passion for R&D and innovation, with experience building POCs and exploring emerging technologies.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to new technologies.
  8. Comfortable working in fast-paced, operational environments.
  9. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  10. This is a hybrid role, requiring on-site presence at our Brooklyn office 2-3 days/week (Tuesday-Thursday).

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with GraphQL, event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
  • Exposure to cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Background in logistics, fulfillment, or last-mile delivery systems.
  • Knowledge of IoT, RFID, or smart tracking technologies.
  • Willingness to work across different tech stacks and contribute to non-TypeScript projects.

Benefits include:

  • Health Insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Stock Options from Day 1
  • 401k Plan
  • Paid family leave
  • Compassionate Leave (3-5 days as needed)
  • Monthly CookUnity credits
  • Wellness perks: nutritional coaching, fitness subsidies
