Overview
SentinelOne is at the intersection of AI and security, delivering an AI-native platform that unifies protection across endpoints, cloud, identity, data, and AI systems to provide autonomous detection and response. The company aims to reduce noise, simplify complexity, and empower security teams to focus on what matters. We are seeking a Staff Forward Deploy Engineer who can work across customer environments and our product, shipping integrations, fixes, and platform improvements for customer deployments.
You will work with customers to understand environments, translate ambiguous requirements into shipped solutions, and build integrations, customizations, and upstream contributions that unlock real business value. You will own customer engagements end-to-end and lead technically across unfamiliar codebases and problem spaces, collaborating with engineers, tech leads, architects, product management, sales, and customer executives.
What Will You Do?
- Software Development (fullstack; primarily React/Java): Dive deep into coding, turn customer requirements and product gaps into shipped solutions, write robust tests, fix bugs, and ensure top-notch security. Expect to move between codebases regularly, including escalated issues that span multiple products.
- Customer Engagement and Requirements Gathering: Partner with customers and field teams to understand environments, goals, and constraints. Turn ambiguous asks into a clear technical strategy. Feed field learnings back into product and engineering planning while advocating for customer needs. Occasionally support pre-sales scoping with engineering input.
- Customer Integrations, Deployments, and Enablement: Design and deliver integrations that connect SentinelOne products into customer environments, often alongside the customer's engineers. Produce runbooks, integration docs, and executive-level communications to enable independent operation.
- Upstream Contributions to the Core Product: When fixes or improvements are needed in the core platform to serve customers, collaborate with platform teams for long-term contributions and build tooling that codifies repeatable patterns and scales Forward Deploy.
- Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Raise the bar for the Forward Deploy Engineering team, mentor Senior Forward Deploy Engineers, and shape how the team delivers engagements as it grows.
- Build and Review Technical Specifications: Architect end-to-end solutions for complex problems spanning multiple codebases, document trade-offs, and provide feedback on other specs with an understanding of broader dependencies.
- Code Review: Maintain code quality, security, and efficiency; provide guidance across the codebases you visit.
- Support and Team Collaboration: Respond to ad-hoc customer and internal escalations promptly; assist colleagues, share feedback, and contribute to weekly syncs and daily standups.
What Skills and Knowledge Will You Bring?
We do not require a perfect match with everything below; however, the more this describes you, the better a fit you will be for this role.
- Experience
- Solid computer science background with 6+ years of engineering experience including backend and frontend.
- Proven expertise designing and operating distributed systems or data-intensive services.
- Track record of leading substantial pieces of work end-to-end, under ambiguity, with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with customers or senior stakeholders to shape technical solutions.
- Technical Mastery
- Deep proficiency in at least one production language (Java strongly preferred; 5+ years) and working comfort in at least one additional language.
- Value for elegant, concise, readable code.
- Ability to pick up new tools and codebases; familiarity with modern Java, React, TypeScript, Kafka, Redis, GraphQL, Node.js, SentinelOne platform, and more.
- Preference for modern Java (lambdas) and composition over inheritance.
- Comfort weighing in on CAP theorem considerations and selecting data structures with appropriate trade-offs.
- Domain Familiarity
- Experience in cybersecurity (SIEM, EDR/XDR, log pipelines, detection engineering, threat hunting, etc.) strongly preferred.
- A Collaborative, Curious, and Practical Mindset
- Willingness to dive into unfamiliar codebases and be genuinely useful quickly; able to lead others in similar work.
- Ability to reframe vague customer requests as solvable technical problems and translate between engineers and non-engineers without losing precision.
- Preference for shipping a well-thought-out solution that solves the real problem over perfect but late delivery; ability to tailor solutions per customer while still producing generalizable results.
- Commitment to mentorship and developer growth; pride in clear written communication across tickets, design docs, runbooks, and executive briefings.
