Job Description & Requirements
Major Responsibilities:
Interpret physician referrals and complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations using appropriate methods. Establish and implement treatment plans based on evaluation results and functional goals, monitor outcomes, and adjust plans as needed. Communicate with physicians and team members, and attend to patient comfort and psychosocial needs.
Plan for discharge, provide home programs, patient/family education, and coordinate community referrals. Document all patient interactions and care according to departmental standards, including evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling, ensuring adherence to insurance and departmental policies.
Maintain a clean and organized treatment area, assist with patient transfers and manual techniques, and demonstrate proficiency with modalities and equipment. Promote safety and participate in quality improvement activities. Manage caseloads and assist with coverage as needed.
Engage in professional development through continuing education, departmental training, and literature review. Supervise physical therapy assistants and students in accordance with state and local regulations.
Education
Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution or equivalent, with ongoing continuing education.
Certification / Registration / License
Valid Physical Therapy License in Illinois or Wisconsin and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Work Experience: None required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Excellent communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate growth and development principles. Maintain hospital certifications and adhere to safety protocols.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., push/pull 30 lbs., and perform manual techniques. Must have functional senses for communication and safety, and be able to wear protective gear. Position may involve travel and exposure to hazards.
