Instructor of Health Information Technology (RHIT)

The Health Professions and Public Service division at Waubonsee Community College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Health Information Technology (HIT) with a commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity, and holistic student success. This position supports a fully remote instructional schedule, allowing the successful candidate to choose a 100% online schedule that meets the full-time faculty instructional load requirements.

The HIT faculty will deliver curriculum and instruction on topics such as clinical classification systems, healthcare law, data management, reimbursement systems, data analysis, healthcare information systems, and related courses.

The faculty member will be responsible for curriculum development, instruction, and student assessment for an Associate in Applied Science degree and a Certificate of Achievement, both accredited by CAHIIM on the recommendation of AHIMA.

Teaching assignments may include days, evenings, and weekends, with courses offered in various modes including face-to-face, flex, online, synchronous online, and hybrid. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in using instructional technology to enhance learning.

Duties include designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments tailored to a diverse student population, and ensuring students meet program objectives within a competency-based model. The role also involves student engagement, advising, monitoring progress, supporting student success initiatives, collaborating with industry partners, and participating in accreditation activities.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, RHIT certification, and two years of field experience (equivalent to 4000 hours). Teaching or industry experience is preferred, especially at the post-secondary level and in online instruction. Experience with diverse and underserved populations and integrating technology into teaching is highly valued.
