Job Summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Staff Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer for our Test & Evaluation organization in Melbourne, FL. The role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, configuring, and testing flight instrumentation systems to support ground and flight test activities.

Relocation and Travel

Relocation assistance may be available. Travel required up to 25% of the time.

Security Clearance

Top Secret clearance required. Must be able to maintain this clearance and any program access within a reasonable period of time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the team from design to flight testing.
  • Develop Flight Test Instrumentation processes, procedures and modify Electrical and Mechanical engineering drawings related to Instrumentation systems for ground and flight test activities.
  • Define Instrumentation system configurations and signal conditioning requirements for airborne data acquisition hardware and software, including sensor selection, installation methods, calibration and checkout requirements.
  • Perform engineering design tasks, participate in electrical design reviews, and write procedures.
  • Design and maintain TTC Airborne Data Acquisition Systems, including an onboard Data Monitoring Station and associated data system components.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in STEM discipline + 12 years of related professional experience, OR Master of Science in STEM discipline + 10 years of related professional experience, OR STEM Ph.D. + 8 years of related professional/military experience.
  • Professional experience with telemetry, RF, onboard recording systems, ground stations, or subsystems.
  • Professional experience with specialized instrumentation test equipment/sensors (e.g., strain gages, accelerometers, pressure transducers).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to create detailed design specifications, product manuals, ICDs, and/or design handbooks.
  • Design and operational experience with TTC data systems.
  • Experience working in Navy Flight Test environments.
  • Familiarity with Symvionics IADS software or operations in a Mission Control Room.
  • Basic knowledge of data bus architecture (MIL-STD-1553, IEE-1394, ARINC-429, RS232, RS422).
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $152,900.00 – $229,300.00. Salary determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, annual bonuses, and in some cases, long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
