Job summary

BlackSky invites a Staff Engineer, Flight Software to join the Satellite Embedded Software Group. You will design, develop, and lead flight software for the satellite imaging payload and ADCS subsystems, mentoring others and contributing to requirements and test plans.

The role reports to the Senior Manager of Flight Software and offers collaboration across embedded systems, operations, and mission management, with a flexible hybrid work model in Tukwila, WA or remote for strong candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• At least 10 years of experience delivering and maintaining commercial/embedded software in production.
• Expertise in engineering clean and maintainable C/C++ and Python code.
• Experience with Embedded Linux including build systems (Buildroot, Yocto, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise for ADCS and imaging payload subsystem software design and development.
• Drive work to timely completion using Jira in an Agile-like environment; participate in status and standup meetings, sprint planning.
• Collaborate with other ESG software team members and cross-functional engineers to deliver mission-critical features and bug fixes.
• Ensure adequate documentation, test, inspection, and analysis to verify requirements and goals.
• Assist with Systems Engineering requirements development and management.
• Execute and provide feedback for flight software design, development, unit tests and releases processes.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.
