Job summary

SK hynix memory solutions America Inc. in San Jose, CA is seeking an experienced SSD firmware test engineer to own verification across NVMe, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specs.

You will design automated tests (white/grey/black-box) in Python, run end-to-end validations on diverse platforms including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype SSD hardware, and collaborate with firmware teams to improve architecture and test coverage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years of post-baccalaureate experience.
  • SSD firmware testing and/or development experience.
  • SSD or NAND Flash development industry experience.
  • Storage protocols NVMe, ONFI, and TCG Opal.
  • Awareness of Agile development and Git workflows.
  • Test automation, testing methodologies and test tools.
  • Automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive firmware verification plans covering NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specifications.
  • Design and deploy white-box, grey-box, and black-box automation tests using Python.

About the Role:
  • Create comprehensive firmware verification plans covering NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specifications (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and deploy white-box, grey-box, and black-box automation tests using Python to validate security protocols and firmware functionality on a module-by-module basis.
  • Execute and own end-to-end testing across diverse platforms, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype SSD hardware.
  • Utilize deep SSD domain expertise to analyze weekly regression failures, root-cause complex firmware bugs, and drive issue resolution.
  • Partner closely with firmware development teams during code reviews to improve software architecture, expand test coverage, and elevate overall code quality.
  • Own test reporting and articulately communicate technical challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to both engineering teams and management.
Education / Experience:
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Digital Sciences, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in an engineering-related occupation.
  • SSD firmware testing and/or development.
  • SSD or NAND Flash development industry.
  • Storage industry protocols including NVMe, ONFI, and TCG Opal.
  • Agile development, GIT development flow, Branch management and tools.
  • Test automation, testing methodologies and test tools.
  • Automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.

COMPENSATION: $110,000-$160,000
