Job summary

SK Hynix Memory Solutions in San Jose, CA is seeking a firmware verification engineer to design and execute comprehensive verification plans for NVMe-based enterprise SSDs. You will validate security protocols, automate tests with Python, and collaborate with firmware teams.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years in SSD firmware testing, NVMe/ONFI protocols, and CI/test automation. Onsite 5 days a week with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, CS, or related field; 5+ years in firmware/SSD testing or related engineering role.
  • Experience with SSD firmware testing and NAND/NVMe protocols.
  • Familiarity with Agile development, Git workflows, branch management, and CI/test automation.

Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive firmware verification plans covering NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specs (SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and deploy white-box/grey-box/black-box automation tests using Python to validate firmware functionality.
  • Execute end-to-end testing across simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype SSD hardware.
  • Analyze weekly regressions and root-cause firmware defects; drive resolution.
  • Collaborate with firmware teams during code reviews to improve software architecture and test coverage.
  • Own test reporting; communicate challenges and mitigation plans to engineering and management.

About the Role:
  • Create comprehensive firmware verification plans covering NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specifications (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and deploy white-box, grey-box, and black-box automation tests using Python to validate security protocols and firmware functionality on a module-by-module basis.
  • Execute and own end-to-end testing across diverse platforms, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype SSD hardware.
  • Utilize deep SSD domain expertise to analyze weekly regression failures, root-cause complex firmware bugs, and drive issue resolution.
  • Partner closely with firmware development teams during code reviews to improve software architecture, expand test coverage, and elevate overall code quality.
  • Own test reporting and articulately communicate technical challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to both engineering teams and management.
Education / Experience:
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Digital Sciences, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in an engineering-related occupation.
  • SSD firmware testing and/or development.
  • SSD or NAND Flash development industry.
  • Storage industry protocols including NVMe, ONFI, and TCG Opal.
  • Agile development, GIT development flow, Branch management and tools.
  • Test automation, testing methodologies and test tools.
  • Automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.
COMPENSATION: $110,000-$160,000

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be tailored based on several factors, including the location, job grade, relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. We also take into account the internal equity among our current team members to ensure fairness and competitiveness
