Job summary

Analog Devices, Inc. in San Jose, CA seeks a Staff Power Field Applications Engineer to support the IVR Empower portfolio from initial evaluation to production readiness.

You will translate customer requirements into robust power solutions, lead design-in activities, and provide hands-on engineering support across the full design cycle. The role requires a BSEE (MSEE preferred), 5 years in power FAE with Tier-1 customers, strong PCB and PDN skills, and proficiency with SIMPLIS, OrCAD, Cadence

Qualifications

• BSEE required; MSEE in power electronics preferred.
• 5 years of Power Field Applications Engineering experience with Tier-1 customers.
• 3 years’ experience in DC-DC converter design including component selection and simulation for PMICs and high-current applications.
• Hands-on lab experience and automated measurements for bring-up and characterization of boards.
• Experience with Python for automated testing and prototyping.

Staff Power Field Applications Engineer (San Jose, CA)

Core Responsibilities / Essential Functions: The position will be responsible for supporting ADI IVR (Empower) portfolio customer designs from start to finish and assist in the development of the customer designs. The role of a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is to be a trusted advisor and consultant for system-level evaluation, simulation, design-in and bring-up of Analog Devices Datacenter solutions into customer systems. Role duties and responsibilities: This role combines customer-facing technical leadership with hands‑on engineering support across the full design cycle. Key responsibilities include translating customer requirements into robust power solutions, guiding implementation and validation, and coordinating successful design-in activities from initial evaluation through production readiness. Engage with customers through onsite and virtual interactions to gather requirements, understand design targets, present technical proposals, and serve as a trusted advisor throughout evaluation, design-in, bring-up, qualification, and production readiness for ADI datacenter products, including the IVR (Empower) portfolio. Develop and maintain design collateral—including specifications, simulation models, schematics, layout guidance — using tools such as SIMPLIS, OrCAD, and Cadence Allegro; review customer implementations and refine deliverables as requirements evolve.

Evaluate prototypes, troubleshoot design issues, and perform system testing in customer and ADI laboratories using oscilloscopes, Bode plotters, load emulators, and related equipment. Analyze power delivery networks and power integrity using FEM and SI/PI extraction tools, and develop board‑level reference designs and custom solutions for high‑power point‑of‑load applications, including SoCs, processors, and xPUs. Manage multiple customer engagements, coordinate activities to customer schedules, and travel as needed for presentations, design reviews, and laboratory testing.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BSEE required; MSEE in power electronics preferred
• 5 years of experience in Power Field Applications Engineering in a customer facing role with Tier‑1 Customers.
• 3 years’ experience in design of DC‑DC converter including component selection, system design and analysis by simulation and lab measurements for PMICs, multiphase bucks for low voltage (<1V) and high current (300A+) applications.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory equipment and automated measurements for bring‑up and characterization of customer boards. Knowledge of programming languages and tools for automated testing and prototype such as Python.
• Experience in PCB design, layout and optimization (using Cadence Allegro preferred).
• Experience using circuit simulation and design tools including Spice, Simplis, MATLAB and correlation with lab measurements.
• Experience in PDN and power integrity analysis using SI/PI tools such as Pathways or Sigrity.

Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location, experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors. This position qualifies for a discretionary performance‑based bonus which is based on personal and company factors.
