Job summary

Analog Devices, Inc. in San Jose, CA, is seeking a Staff Power Applications Engineer to support the IVR (Empower) portfolio from design‑in to product readiness.

The role requires leading power‑system analyses, developing reference designs, and collaborating with FAEs, sales, and customers to meet performance targets. Qualifications

• Degree in electrical engineering with power electronics focus.
• 5 years in Power Applications Engineering validating products and full power-system PCB level designs.
• 3+ years in DC-DC converter design including component selection and simulation/measurement for PMICs and high-current loads (300A+).
• Hands-on lab measurements and Python-based automation for testing/prototyping.

Staff Power Applications Engineer (San Jose, CA)

Core Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

The position will be responsible for supporting ADI IVR (Empower) portfolio during the final product developments to customer design in. The role of an Applications Engineer (AE) is to be a trusted consultant for product evaluation, simulation, design‑in and bring‑up of Analog Devices Datacenter solutions to get ready for customer systems.

Role duties and responsibilities:

• The Applications Engineer (AE) serves as a technical lead and trusted consultant for the ADI IVR (Empower) portfolio, with emphasis on vertical power delivery (VPD) and integrated voltage regulators (IVRs).
• Working closely with product and design teams, Sales, Field Applications Engineers (FAEs), and customers, the AE supports solutions from product evaluation and design‑in through system bring‑up and production readiness.
• Develop and maintain customer‑ready design collateral, including reference designs, schematics, PCB layouts, stack‑up recommendations, simulation models, system‑level performance models, and proven starting‑point solutions.
• Create demonstration platforms and custom board‑level power solutions for high‑power point‑of‑load applications supporting SoCs, processors, and xPUs.
• Collaborate with FAEs to translate customer requirements into complete power‑system proposals that meet electrical, thermal, stability, and performance targets.
• Analyze customer power delivery networks, boards, and packages using PDN, power‑integrity, and FEM/CAD extraction tools to verify system performance and stability.
• Build and correlate circuit and system simulations using tools such as SIMPLIS, and automate system‑level validation and characterization with Python.
• Support prototype evaluation, board bring‑up, qualification, and production readiness in customer and ADI laboratories, including root‑cause analysis and issue resolution.
• Perform hands‑on power‑system measurements using oscilloscopes, Bode plotters, load emulators, and related laboratory equipment, and correlate results with simulation models.
• Provide technical guidance and reusable tools that enable Sales and FAEs to present, evaluate, and deploy ADI datacenter power solutions effectively.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BSEE required; MSEE in power electronics preferred
• 5 years of experience in Power Applications Engineering in validating products and full power system PCB level designs.
• 3 years’ experience in design of DC‑DC converter including component selection, system design and analysis by simulation and lab measurements for PMICs, multiphase bucks for low voltage (<1V) and high current (300A+) applications.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory equipment and automated measurements for bring‑up and characterization of customer boards. Knowledge of programming languages and tools for automated testing and prototyping such as Python.
• Experience in PCB design, layout and optimization (using Cadence Allegro preferred).
• Experience using circuit simulation and design tools including Spice, Simplis, MATLAB and correlation with lab measurements.
• Experience in PDN and power integrity analysis using SI/PI tools such as Pathways or Sigrity.

The expected wage range for a new hire into this position is $150,978 to $218,624. Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location, experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors. This position qualifies for a discretionary performance‑based bonus which is based on personal and company factors.
