Job summary

Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Staff Electro-Optics Infrared (EO/IR) Engineer for Melbourne, FL. The role contributes to EO/IR sensor subsystems through requirements, design, modeling, and hardware prototyping.

The candidate will perform as part of an EO/IR team, developing novel solutions, analyzing performance, and supporting hardware builds in a lab environment to meet mission objectives. Secret clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM with 12+ years of experience OR Master’s with 10+ years OR PhD with 8+ years.
• Experience with sensor development, IR payloads, fiber optics.
• Background in EO/IR and laser tech for airborne/space platforms.
• Experience with EO/IR sensor component design and performance analysis.
• Modeling EO/IR systems to assess performance.
• Knowledge of system engineering design methods and interface control docs.

Responsibilities

• Support design development and integration of EOIR sensor subsystems to meet mission objectives.
• Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specs.
• Learn and apply high-fidelity EOIR performance models and optical modeling.
• Model, develop, and analyze sensor performance for airborne platforms.
• Gather input from stakeholders, synthesize data, communicate results.
• Assess performance vs cost and mission requirements; evaluate existing and emerging capabilities.
• Support EO/IR team through development and implementation tasks.
• Build and test hardware prototypes in lab settings.
• Characterize EOIR subsystems and components.
