Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina, is seeking a Staff Environmental Engineer or Scientist to join our environmental management and site assessment team.

You will apply academic knowledge to real-world projects, perform fieldwork (soil, groundwater, indoor air), assess vapor intrusion, conduct Phase I/II ESAs, and prepare technical reports under tight deadlines. Applicants should have a Bachelor's in geology or environmental/civil/chemical engineering; willingness to travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering (required).
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of related experience; regular field work and overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Fieldwork including soil, groundwater, soil gas, indoor air, and surface water sampling.
  • Vapor intrusion assessments and related system design and oversight.
  • Environmental due diligence (Phase I/II ESAs) and regulatory permitting.
  • Data analysis, maps, tables, and figures; technical report preparation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fieldwork such as soil, soil gas, indoor air, groundwater, and surface water sampling, and drilling and contractor oversight
  • Vapor intrusion assessments, vapor mitigation system design, construction oversight, testing, and operational maintenance and monitoring
  • Environmental due diligence (Phase I/Phase II Environmental Site Assessments)
  • Regulatory compliance and permitting services for air, stormwater, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, universal waste, and/or chemical handling
  • Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures
  • Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals
  • Brownfields redevelopment work, including contaminated site construction planning and contractor oversight during construction
  • Fast-paced environment, working with clients (municipalities, private developers) with quick and strict deadlines
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in geology or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required; provided by Geosyntec)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Prior field sampling or research experience in contaminated media. (preferred)
  • Prior internship experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Experience with ArcView and/or Microsoft Access. (preferred)
