Job summary

The City of Brentwood is seeking a Staff Engineer for Traffic and Development to deliver technical support for development review and traffic engineering activities within the Engineering Department. This role contributes to smart development, traffic calming, safety improvements, and efficient transportation infrastructure.

Ideal candidates will have civil engineering credentials, EIT preferred, and a drive for professional growth toward licensure.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent; EIT preferred; PE licensure pursued within four years is desirable.
• 1–3 years municipal development review/transportation engineering experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MUTCD standards, ITE guidelines, and basic hydrologic/hydraulic principles.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate neighborhood traffic calming requests, including petitions, meetings, data evaluation, and recommendations.
• Review development plans for compliance with City code and standards.
• Assist in traffic safety evaluations and signal timing reviews.
• Coordinate with third-party traffic consultants and stakeholders.
• Support Planning Commission and Board items related to traffic and development.
• Perform site inspections and review construction documents.
