Job summary

VB Spine seeks a Staff Engineer to join our R&D team in the Spine division. You will lead complex implant and instrument design, mentor teammates, and drive sustaining projects for commercially available products including design controls and regulatory support.

Based in Leesburg, VA or Allendale, NJ, you’ll partner with surgeons, sales reps, and cross-functional teams to translate patient needs into robust, manufacturable designs, develop tests, and deliver high-quality documentation and risk

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred
• 4+ years of relevant work experience
• Strong technical ability to develop and optimize designs for mechanical assemblies with DFM principles
• Proficiency with Creo or SolidWorks and ability to create drawings, models, GD&T, and CAE tools
• Experience with design controls within regulated environments
• Moderate project management skills including timelines and budgets
• Ability to communicate complex plans clearly and work with low supervision

Responsibilities

• Interface with surgeons and sales reps to gather input for design and evaluation of product enhancements
• Develop innovative solutions meeting customer needs using surgical procedure knowledge
• Design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components and subsystems for medical devices
• Lead large projects and participate on cross-functional design teams
• Contribute to design reviews and engineering documentation
• Translate user needs into design inputs and specifications for complex system designs
• Conduct prototyping and testing; develop fixtures for verification testing
• Support Voice of Customer sessions with clinicians
• Mentor others on design controls, risk management, and DFFrom
• Identify and implement procedurally improvements across teams
