Job summary

INFRO is seeking a senior individual-contributor to set the technical direction for routing and reliability, and to do much of the building yourself.

You will own route resolution, retries, circuit breaking, telemetry, and incident response, with a focus on fast, observable decisions at the edge.

This role emphasizes strong design review capabilities and practical leadership through written designs and reviews.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience with ownership of a latency-sensitive production service.
• Deep knowledge of retry and backoff policy, timeouts, load shedding and failure isolation.
• Experience running incident response and writing blameless postmortems.
• Strong TypeScript or another typed language; comfortable with TypeScript day to day.
• Proven track record of technical leadership through design documents.

Responsibilities

• Own route resolution, weighted and priority strategies, per-target retries, circuit breaking and connection health.
• Define gateway guarantees and limitations, and ensure docs reflect them precisely.
• Design and implement failure drills and load tests to prove failover works before customer use.
• Build telemetry to answer which provider failed, for whom, since when.
• Review gateway designs to raise the bar on correctness and operability.

Job description

Customers route traffic across several provider accounts and expect INFRO to move requests when a provider degrades. That only works if routing decisions are fast, observable and correct at the edges: a timeout before the first byte, a 529 halfway through a burst, a connection whose credential was just revoked.

This is a senior individual-contributor role. You will set the technical direction for routing and reliability and do much of the building yourself.

What you will do

• Own route resolution, weighted and priority strategies, per-target retries, circuit breaking and connection health.
• Define what the gateway guarantees and what it does not (for example, never re-routing after the first streamed byte) and make sure the docs say exactly that.
• Build the failure drills and load tests that prove failover works before a customer needs it.
• Design the telemetry that lets an operator answer which provider failed, for whom, since when.
• Review designs across the gateway and raise the bar on correctness and operability.

What you will bring

• 8+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering, including ownership of a latency-sensitive production service.

Nice to have

• Experience building an API gateway, proxy or service mesh.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry tracing and semantic conventions.
• Operating on an edge or serverless runtime where CPU time, not wall time, is the budget.
