Job summary

Adyen seeks a Staff Engineer in the Payments group to shape the future of how businesses and shoppers interact with our payment platform. You will drive technical direction at the intersection of mobile, point-of-sale, and backend services, owning architecture and delivering unified shopper journeys across devices.

The role is highly hands-on with leadership responsibilities: mentor engineers, raise the bar on observability, testing, and security, and partner with Product, Design, and Legal to

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in modern production environments at Staff level.
• 5+ years of direct, hands-on mobile development experience with production code (Android Kotlin or iOS Swift).
• Willingness to cross-train onto the non-primary mobile platform and work across boundaries.
• Strong ownership, leadership, and ability to influence without formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Build the next generation of payment experiences across devices and surfaces.
• Architect and drive long-term technical strategy for mobile experiences and backend integrations.
• Lead complex problems around reliability, performance, security, and cross-platform compatibility at scale.
• Drive alignment with Product, Design, Legal, and other stakeholders using data and prototypes.
• Establish architectural boundaries, APIs, and patterns to enable autonomous cross-functional teams.
• Mentor engineers across levels and demystify internal systems for younger engineers.
• Champion engineering excellence in observability, testing, and secure integrations.
