Job summary

Rover in Seattle seeks a senior software engineer for the Commerce Platform to own the end-to-end transaction lifecycle, from booking to payout, ensuring secure, auditable financial flows and compliance.

You will set technical direction across teams, mentor engineers, and partner with Finance, Accounting, and Legal to translate requirements into robust system designs, while balancing hands-on work with leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience with strong system design.
• Proficient in Python/Django and front-end React/React Native.
• Able to lead cross-functional initiatives and align roadmaps.
• Experience using AI tools to boost engineering velocity.
• Background with large-scale, high-traffic consumer platforms; finance-aware.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including with leadership.
• Mentor engineers and participate in technical interviewing.
• Aligned with Rover Core Values.

Responsibilities

• Build deep understanding of money flow: orders, fees, discounts, taxes, payouts.
• Set technical direction for the transaction lifecycle across Rover.
• Address cross-team issues like new tax requirements or payment providers.
• Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Compliance on system design.
• Raise the bar for trustworthy financial systems via reviews and patterns.
• Move between hands-on work and mentorship; elevate others.
• Ensure correct charges and sitter payments on stay days.
