Job summary

A well-respected construction firm is seeking a Staff Engineer - Electrical to support utility-scale solar projects. This position involves performing electrical designs, collaborating with project teams, and using software such as AutoCAD and ETAP. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Systems, with prior internships and relevant software experience preferred. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Systems required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Prior internship and AutoCAD/ETAP experience preferred.
  • Internship experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD and ETAP experience preferred.
  • Know PV modules, inverters, transformers, surge arresters, breakers.
  • Familiar with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, UL, NESC.
  • Strong communication and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical design of utility-scale solar projects from conceptual phase to design completion.
  • Collaborate with teams for equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, and cable routing.
  • Create and review electrical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Create/modify PV electric supply stations with PVsyst and SAM.
  • Create/modify electrical drawings and construction details in AutoCAD.
  • Support project schedules with engineering and design tasks.
  • Conduct site reviews and construction visits.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

The Position

The Staff Engineer - Electrical will work with a project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to design requirements, site constraints and client preferences.

Payne & Dolan is looking for a self-motivated, results-oriented, problem-solver who has a desire to be part of our growing engineering design group. Responsibilities to include:

  • Perform electrical design of utility-scale solar projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. This includes collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform electrical system modeling in ETAP to evaluate cable ampacity, voltage drop, ground potential rise, and thermal performance. Develop comprehensive electrical engineering reports, including shortcircuit studies, loadflow analyses, arcflash hazard assessments, and ground grid evaluations.
  • Create, modify and review PV electric supply stations using PVsyst and System Advisor Model.
  • Create, modify and review electrical drawings and construction details using AutoCAD.
  • Perform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedules.
  • Perform site reviews and construction site visits.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Systems.
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be a reliable, efficient self-starter with initiative and a sense of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship experience desired.
  • Prior AutoCAD and ETAP experience desired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical components including: PV modules, inverters, transformers, surge arresters, and circuit breakers.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering standards/codes including: NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, UL, NESC.
  • Ability to communicate with others to convey information effectively, by telephone, in written form, email and in person.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records or notes.
