Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Palo Alto is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to define, design and develop complex features for the next generation of Ford Electric Vehicles. You will collaborate with Hardware, Systems and Integration teams to define requirements and create functional tests, including CI/CD, and you will integrate software into the controller’s codebase.

With 10+ years in embedded software, you will work in a cross-functional environment using C, C++, and Python on RTOS

Qualifications

  • BS in CS/EE or equivalent education and experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded systems.
  • Programming in C, C++ and Python.
  • Experience with RTOS, Linux, and concurrent systems.
  • Familiarity with MISRA, AutoSAR and ISO 26262 (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop complex features for Ford Electric Vehicles.
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Systems and Integration teams to develop requirements and functional test cases, including CI/CD tests when possible.
  • Lead efforts to diagnose and improve existing features to enhance the Ford customer experience.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, integration, UI/UX and other teams throughout the product development cycle.
  • Develop tooling and diagnostic interfaces between vehicle access components.
  • Integrate software and features into the controller’s codebase.
  • Use data-driven analysis tools to verify and diagnose vehicle software in the field.
  • Design software stacks for microcontrollers supporting Ford’s vehicle infotainment platform, including vehicle access, networking and power management

Job description

  • Define, design and develop complex features with multiple stakeholders for the next generation of Ford Electric Vehicles
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Systems and Integration teams to develop requirements and functional test cases, including CI/CD tests when possible
  • Lead efforts to diagnose and improve existing features to enhance the Ford customer experience
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, integration, UI/UX and other teams throughout the product development cycle
  • Develop tooling and diagnostic interfaces between vehicle access components
  • Integrate software and features into the controller’s codebase
  • Use data-driven analysis tools to verify and diagnose vehicle software in the field
  • Design software stacks for microcontrollers supporting Ford’s vehicle infotainment platform, including vehicle access, networking and power management
Requirements
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • 10+ years proven working experience in software engineering
  • Hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded systems
  • Programming experience in C, C++ and Python
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Linux and building concurrent systems
  • Strong documentation, writing, and communications skills
  • Must be willing to learn and dive into unknown areas
  • M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field (preferred)
  • Experience with automotive networks like CAN, LIN, automotive Ethernet (preferred)
  • Experience with wireless networks like BLE, UWB, NFC and WiFi (preferred)
  • Experience in automotive systems and applications (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Vector and Intrepid tools (preferred)
  • Familiarity with MISRA, AutoSAR and functional safety (ISO 26262) (preferred)
  • Experience negotiating with hardware and/or software vendors (preferred)Experience with Yocto Linux (preferred)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
