Job summary

Ironclad is hiring a Staff or Senior Staff Engineer for the Developer Productivity team in San Francisco. You’ll lead improvements to build, test, and ship software, owning tooling, CI/CD, release automation, and Backstage integration.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive the roadmap, and partner with SREs to scale systems. We value hands-on leadership, strong TS/JS skills, and experience with Kubernetes and cloud deployments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience for Staff, 12+ years for Senior Staff; at least 3 years in SRE, infrastructure, build systems, CI/CD, or developer tooling.
• Deep experience with JavaScript/TypeScript build and test tools (webpack, Jest, Vitest) and diagnosing slow builds at scale.
• Production experience with Kubernetes and containers on cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure) and CI systems such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

• Make JavaScript/TypeScript builds and tests faster and more reliable across webpack, Jest, and Vitest; improve Bazel migration and remote caching.
• Build Kubernetes tooling to enable product teams to make changes independently.
• Own the path from commit to production: CI, environment promotion, verification, rollback.
• Extend Backstage with plugins for deployment, monitoring, and incident data.
• Keep local development fast and consistent across machines.
• Use metrics like build times and deployment frequency to prioritize improvements.
• Lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and share responsibility for support rotation.
