Job summary

Burkhardt Engineering Company is seeking a Staff Engineer with a civil engineering background to join our site development team in Ohio. This entry-level role focuses on learning under senior staff while contributing to planning, design, and construction drawings.

You will work on site layouts, research zoning codes, prepare reports, and coordinate with utilities. The position emphasizes growth toward licensure with mentorship and hands-on project experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• EIT Certification / FE exam.
• Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proactive and detail-oriented with a strong willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Design site layouts and prepare conceptual and schematic plans based on code requirements and sound engineering principles.
• Conduct research related to zoning codes, design criteria, infrastructure, jurisdictional requirements and permit processes.
• Prepare site investigation and due diligence reports.
• Design, perform calculations, and prepare construction drawings and reports under supervision.
• Coordinate with utility providers for storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water, gas, electric, and telecommunications services.
• Attend project meetings with internal and external project team members.
• Prepare permit submittal packages.
• Perform site visits to obtain necessary data for design purposes.
• Learn jurisdictional codes and best practices and apply them to project designs.
