Insight Global is seeking a Senior or Staff Engineer to join a team focused on Electric Transmission Planning & Strategic Initiatives. You will analyze grid reliability, renewable integration, and data center growth with modeling, simulations, and cutting-edge tech evaluation.

The role involves coordinating with OEMs and utilities, performing power system studies using PSCAD, PSS/E, RTDS, MATLAB, and Python, and contributing to high-impact transmission projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of related experience for Senior Engineer level
  • 8+ years of related experience for Staff Engineer level
  • Strong understanding of electric transmission systems and power system fundamentals
  • Experience performing power system modeling and simulation studies
  • Knowledge of inverter-based resources, renewable generation, or energy storage technologies
  • Experience with PSCAD, RSCAD, RTDS, PowerWorld, MATLAB, Python
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform transmission system modeling and power system studies
  • Conduct load flow, dynamic stability, transient, and electromagnetic simulations
  • Support integration of utility-scale solar, battery storage, and inverter-based resources
  • Analyze Grid-Forming (GFM) and Grid-Following (GFL) inverter technologies
  • Evaluate HVDC, FACTS devices, SVCs, synchronous condensers, and battery storage solutions
  • Develop and validate transmission system models using PSCAD, RSCAD, PSS/E, RTDS, MATLAB, Python
  • Conduct root cause analysis for system disturbances and operational events
  • Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, utilities, and internal engineering teams
  • Support technical reports, engineering specifications, and industry research
  • Participate in field visits to transmission substations, generation facilities, and equipment manufacturers

Overview

A Client is seeking a Senior or Staff Engineer to join its Electric Transmission Planning & Strategic Initiatives team. This group is responsible for evaluating innovative technologies and advanced planning solutions that support grid reliability, renewable integration, and the unprecedented growth of data center demand across the electric transmission system.

This role is ideal for engineers with strong power systems expertise who enjoy solving complex grid challenges through modeling, simulation, research, and emerging technology evaluation. The team supports initiatives involving inverter-based resources (IBRs), energy storage, FACTS devices, HVDC systems, and advanced transmission planning studies.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Perform transmission system modeling and power system studies
  • Conduct load flow, dynamic stability, transient, and electromagnetic simulations
  • Support integration of utility-scale solar, battery storage, and inverter-based resources
  • Analyze Grid-Forming (GFM) and Grid-Following (GFL) inverter technologies
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including HVDC, STATCOMs, SVCs, synchronous condensers, and battery storage solutions
  • Develop and validate transmission system models using PSCAD, RSCAD, PSS®E, RTDS, MATLAB, Python, and related tools
  • Conduct root cause analysis for system disturbances and operational events
  • Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, utilities, and internal engineering teams
  • Support technical reports, engineering specifications, and industry research initiatives
  • Participate in field visits to transmission substations, generation facilities, and equipment manufacturers
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • 5+ years of related experience for Senior Engineer level
  • 8+ years of related experience for Staff Engineer level
  • Strong understanding of electric transmission systems and power system fundamentals
  • Experience performing power system modeling and simulation studies
  • Knowledge of inverter-based resources (IBRs), renewable generation, or energy storage technologies
  • Experience with one or more tools such as:

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
