Job summary

Stack AV in Pittsburgh develops autonomous vehicle firmware, and the Staff Embedded Software Engineer will lead design, development, and validation of safety-critical firmware that interfaces with sensors and compute modules in real-time.

You will mentor a small team, ensure safety-compliant software, and drive production readiness from prototype to field deployment, leveraging HAL/BSP skills and CAN/Ethernet expertise.

Qualifications

• Expert in C++ for embedded safety-critical systems.
• Strong understanding of RTOS concepts (e.g. FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS).
• Experience with safety-critical standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 61508, IEC 62304.
• Provide technical leadership in a small team.
• Hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and BSP development.
• Multithreaded and real-time software design.
• Good understanding of CAN and Ethernet communication protocols, automotive context.
• Has taken at least one product through to production, with paying customers.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software architectures for scalable, real-time embedded systems.
• Mentor and guide team members through technical leadership and code reviews.
• Ensure safety-critical software compliance with robust fault handling.
• Coordinate tasks within the team to meet on-time delivery.
• Support vehicle testing and field deployments, diagnosing embedded software issues.
